Roof decking is a layer of materials found between the structure of your roof, trusses and rafters, and the shingles. During a roof replacement or installation, these are commonly built of plywood or an oriented strand board (OSB). At times, it can be constructed of boards that are either butted together or connected with a tongue-and-groove joint.
Also called sheathing, roof decking must be stable and sturdy enough to bear the weight of the roofing shingles while being flexible enough to give slightly in high winds and under load.
