Winter Gutter Maintenance Checklist

Your gutters are one of the most hardworking components of your home, especially during the cold and rainy seasons as they divert water away from your roof and release them away towards a safe area. As such, you want to ensure that your gutters are in good working order, especially during the winter months.

Today, we share a simple winter gutter maintenance checklist to help you prepare your roof for the cold season.

  • Check Seams and Anchors

Try to take a closer look at your seams and anchors to see if they have any signs of leaking. Also, make sure that the gutters are secured to your home through the gutter spikes. You shouldn’t be able to see any gaps between the fascia and the gutter.

  • Check for Structural Damage

Don’t stop at checking your gutters, but also check out your fascia, siding and foundation for any signs of deterioration, including staining, rotting or mold growth. If there are signs of damage, call your local gutter contractor to find the source of the water flow and conduct repairs as needed.

  • Clear Your Gutters of Debris

This has to be one of the toughest tasks, but one of the most important ones since debris can damage and even clog your gutters. You can request your gutter cleaning contractor for professional assistance so that the job gets done the right way, but you can do this on your own. You, however, have to take extra caution. You’ll need a sturdy ladder, gloves, non-slip boots, a garden towel or a scooper. Carefully, take out the debris that has accumulated and dispose of them properly afterwards. If you prefer to not do this job as often, you can install gutter covers as well.

With those basic tips, you can be confident that your gutters are ready for the winter season!
